At UFC 295 there will no longer be a Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic matchup.

Jones sustained an injury during training on Tuesday night, and UFC President Dana White revealed that he won’t be able to compete on November 11.

White posted on Twitter, “Jon Jones was training last night when he got hurt. He was wrestling and he tore the tendon that connects your pec to the bone, off the bone.” “[In] eight months, surgery will be required. He’s out.”

With Jones out, Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich will square off to determine a new interim heavyweight title. Pavlovich had previously been scheduled as the backup opponent for the UFC 295 main event. Jiri Prochazka vs. Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title will move up into the new main event, making the interim title fight the co-featured event.

Although the native of Ohio frequently expressed his desire to make a comeback to face Jones in what might have been his final fight, White made no mention of Miocic or the reasons he wasn’t chosen to be one half of the new interim championship match. It’s unclear at this moment whether Miocic was given the chance or simply decided to hold off on scheduling the bout until Jones had fully recovered.
