The biggest Mixed Martial Arts organization in the world, the UFC, will sign professional MMA fighter
Puja Tomar, 28, making her the first Indian woman to do so.
The current Matrix Fight Night (MFN) strawweight champion announced the historic victory on Instagram
and claimed that MFN and its president, Ayesha Shroff, helped make the UFC contract possible.

“I signed my UFC contract yesterday and became the first Indian female fighter to compete in the UFC
with the support of @ayeshashroff and @mfn_mma.
It is now possible for a young woman from UP Budhana-Bijrol to fulfill her goal for the first time in history.
As the MFN strawweight champion, I want to thank Ayesha (Shroff), Krishna (Shroff),
and the entire MFN team for assisting me in realizing my goal, Puja said in her post.

The five-time national wushu champion from Uttar Pradesh, 28, started her MMA career in 2012
with the now-defunct Super Fight League. Before joining the ONE Championship,
the top MMA organization in South Asia, in 2017, she amassed a 3-1 record. Puja, on the other hand,
had a terrible run at ONE, dropping four out of her five fights. She joined the MFN in 2021 and won four games in a row.

At MFN 10, Puja defeated Bi Nguyen, a previous ONE opponent, to win the strawweight championship.
Puja previously faced Russian Anastasia Feofanova in early July, in which she successfully defended her championship.

Anshul Jubli, a lightweight standout from India, and Puja will spearhead the nation’s assault on the Octagon.
Anshul will make his promotion debut at UFC 294 on Saturday after signing a historic UFC contract in February 2023.
At the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Anshul (7-0-0) will compete against Mike Breeden (10-6-0) of the United States.

Puja, who has an overall pro MMA record of 8-4, is presently training at the SOMA Fight Club in Bali, Indonesia,
where Anshul also uses the facility to get ready for his UFC battles.
